The Beginning of Knowledge

As a child, we learn the difference between fearing our parents and respecting them. Before we learn to walk or talk, we develop a balance of the two.

Fear of the consequences of our actions and respect to avoid committing the same offense again.

No wonder the scriptures tell us to be as little children. It seems, the older we get the less respect and fear we have of our parents and our God. We are currently in an era where foolishness and wickedness is encouraged and promoted.

However, I cannot blame society. Society is only a portion of the issue. We are the majority of our own problems. When I was younger, I got into a fight (the older folks call it a "scuffle") with my cousin Kenny. Fighting was bad enough, but to raise the stakes, we were at my grandparents' home. My grandmother heard us fighting and came down to discipline us.

Instead of grabbing her belt she grabbed the children's bible and made us read the story of Cain and Able. I will never forget that day because it taught me that if we would fear our discipline before we commit an act, we would practice restraint and ultimately wisdom.

The bible tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Let's get back to understanding the severity of our sins and dedicate our lives to God and righteous living. If you reject God and what you know is right, there will come a day when you will face the consequences. Let's be wise and make a change.

God bless,

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
